UCLA ties up with Mercer Amsterdam for upcycled fashion collection

The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is collaborating with high-end Dutch fashion brand Mercer Amsterdam for a limited-edition capsule collection that celebrates UCLA’s sports heritage. The partnership has been brokered by UCLA’s European licensing agent Plus Licens.

The collection includes varsity jackets, a tennis pocket tee, a quarter zip, a crewneck, and a basketball-inspired sneaker, according to a joint press release by UCLA and Mercer Amsterdam. With garments made from upcycled materials such as recycled plastic lining, bottles, and nylon, and produced in minority and women-owned factories in Canada, this conscious collection does not compromise on sustainability or quality.

“This collaboration is a perfect match that elevates both brands by bringing Mercer’s signature style, and keen design insights to bear in presenting UCLA’s widely celebrated sports lifestyle heritage, resulting in a highly curated collection of impeccable quality and thoughtful design details,” said Cynthia Holmes, director, UCLA trademarks and licensing.

Representative of the California lifestyle, the Bruins brand DNA ensures a unique flair is brought to each collaborative project. Mercer Amsterdam is a high-end sneaker label known for its luxury handcrafted footwear, accessories, and apparel for men and women. The brand has gained notoriety for its many collaborations with celebrities and fashion icons such as Lewis Hamilton, Lady Gaga, Gigi Hadid, and many more, added the release.

“The entire Mercer brand has been based on that American sports heritage vibe, working together with UCLA especially focusing on the tennis theme was a dream come true as it doesn’t only fit the brand DNA, it also fits my own DNA,” said Pim Dresen, founder and designer, Mercer Amsterdam.

“Merging Mercer Amsterdam’s founders’ dreams, sport interest and strive to work in a sustainable way with the lifestyle brand UCLA’s rich sport heritage results in a high qualitative, beautiful capsule collection,” said Malin Jähde Holm – head of Softlines, licensing and collaborations at Plus Licens AB.

The UCLA x Mercer Amsterdam 2022 collection will be available for a limited time on Mercer Amsterdam’s official website and through select retail channels.
